  1. School, work and life itself influence stress. Examples: age, social status, income, diet, cultural background and previous experiences. These issues can easily be susceptibility to a person who feels helpless or who is weak in their mind.

Social support can be both positive and negative on a person who is stress. It depends on how much control a person has over his or situations. Some people like to socialize to overcome stress. While others want to be left alone. Sometimes they are very impatient with others too. People with low self-esteem will be susceptibility to stress.
Social support can help a person overcome stress if they try to depend on someone else for support. Examples of social support will be family, friends, church group, teachers or co-workers.
People can manage stress if they laugh, relax, cry or get a plesant massage. Laughing and crying helps when people accept the situation and use a healthful way to deal with it. People can relax through exercising in a quiet environment. Taking a massage can also help with mind and body. This way you are giving someone else to take over your stressful situations.
Overall the video was funny and interesting. It made a lot of sense. It was short, sweet and to the point. We can also plan a time management to overcome stress. We can also use defense strategies to deal with stressful situations.

Sometimes they are very impatient with others too." In addition some people tent to react in such away to get people attention. Doing things that they aren't suppose to do. which is dangerous to do. the best thing to do it to talk to someone.

    5. Yes Martha. It's true what you said. Every negative situation you may encounter in life might cause you stress depending on the impact it have on your life. Once a person have strong social support and that support shows you the good in a situation and try to let you see the positive, then it will help to become less susceptible to stress. We all need to set certain goals that will work for us and find the good in ourselves. We need to love ourselves first and value ourselves. We all need to have optimistic people in our surroundings so that we may not fall prey to stress. Yes laugh, cry, scream and get that massage. Hmmmmm feels so good.

The quality or state of being susceptible. The state of being predisposed to, sensitive to, or of lacking the ability to resist something (as a pathogen, familial disease, or a drug). In a social understanding, drugs is the most popular substance use to reduce stress. However studies had shown that the use of durgs othen let to more stress bulid up. Forexample, financial stress, emotion stress, metional stress, stress on the body. However for other, there is the seeking of GOD. Other person may look for some other means of subceptible. In an outter look, it raises the person self-esteem.

  3. School, Life and work influence the nature and extent of a person's susceptibility to stress. A person with a healthy self-esteem is internal focused on. With high self-esteem you take care of yourself and assume responsibility. You know good or bad opinions of others; therefore, you are more capable of handling stressful situations. http://www.selfesteemawareness.com/stress-self-esteem.htm A strong social support system can be critical to help you through the stress of tough times, whether you've had a bad day at work or a year filled with loss or chronic illness. Since your supportive family, friends, and co-workers are such an important part of your life, it's never too soon to develop relationships with these people. People who are positive are more resilient towards the effects of stress compared to people who are doubtful. Similarly, individuals with a Type A personality tend to be action-orientated, rush to complete things, and are overly ambitious. Type A people can be prone to stress-related illnesses compared to Type B personality types. People with Type B personality tend to be more relaxed and less time-driven in their pursuits. http://www.effective-time-management-strategies.com/coping-with-stress.html

  4. The major factors that may influence a person nature and extent of a person's susceptibility to stress are:
    * the amount of problems that a person can take or can't. the more problem a person have in his/her life the risk are likely to be at a risk of suffering form anxiety disorders. How emotionally strong a person is? when it comes to one's emotional strength towards stress you may have self-doubt, low self-esteem and likely to be self - critical and will not be able to handle emotional load. The amount of pressure you are under can affect your achievements in life, especially high achievers. The more pressure you are under, the higher the risk to not coping with things. Some people may develop an eating disorder. Also deals with how physically strong are you? If you are a weak person, it makes you more susceptible to worries and fears and you feel unable to take control and cope with things around you. When it comes to how social support,self-esteem, and personality may make a person more or less susceptible all of these factors has a huge impact on the way your social support is. someone who are stress out should be able to have someone to talk to so that he/she can have a less susceptible. self- esteem , a person should be able to have control and be able to handle his/her emotional stress by having a high level of self-esteem. you should never give up on your self. Your personality should be a positive one. always have a good intention towards anything that you do. don't take out your stress out of someone, you leave your stress behind. Stress can affect your personality by making you feel ill.

    3. Okay my fellow classmates…Nothing beats this….….I utmostly believe that following this mindset is helpful to getting through day to day life stressors. As shown in the video, being still and relaxing are elements to being less susceptible to stress. In those quiet moments establishing or at least trying to create frame of mind that reminds you that “It is what it is, while it is” is such a positive influence to fight this ongoing “stress war!”
A Mindful Phrase to Help with Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Addiction We’ve all heard the adage that “It is what it is,” telling us that whatever is happening is simply the reality of the current experience. But I like to add on another piece saying, “It is what it is, while it is.” This speaks to a larger reality that whatever is here is also impermanent. Bringing this saying with you throughout the day could have beneficial effects for a range of difficulties from everyday stress to anxiety to depression and even addiction. Here’s how… As automatic negative thoughts start creeping into your mind and you notice an irritability starting to creep in, saying “it is what it is, while it is” pops you out of auto-pilot, into the present moment and reminds you that there’s impermanence to this feeling. This reminder helps you not get so wrapped up in it and can also give you the choice to be kinder to yourself. This can help stop a spiral into a deeper depression.

  5. Lifestyle, school, work and even relationship issues are all major factors that can influence the nature and extent of a person’s susceptibility to stress. Social support has a big impact in making a person more or less susceptible to stress for most people. It can be good in the case of helping the person to think and worry less, while for other that might just want to be left alone to deal with it themselves it can cause addition stress being around people. Having a low self-esteem can deeply break down a person dealing with stress, cause them to think of themselves in very critical ways, such as “I’m not good enough,” “I’m a failure,” or “I’ll never amount to anything.” While having a high self-esteem allow the person to would think very well of themselves and their abilities, that helps them to get by with there stress and to work pass it. Also cause a change in personality, stress can make you high temper, normal situation would become a problem or cause an issue for that person. Overall stress can come in many forms and cause a lot of side effects on people. General ways to managing it is just by laughing or crying when you have a understanding of what your situation and is either ready to accept it or just cant handle it and need to let it out, even allowing others to help by talking to them or getting someone to give you a massage to help lessen the stress.

This video has been very interesting while fun to watch, in showing just how stress can make a person behave. Find relaxing ways to manage your own personal stress or just stress in general can be a great help.

I agree with Sharlette that unhealthy relationship can also cause stress. I believe that it is the most common thing among people. Socializing can be both good and bad. It depends on the individual personality. Also having a low self-esteem can trigger a person mental capacity to not think straight. Some people are very weak especially when they worry about everything which can lead to stress.

    4. Whilst I do agree with your above statements, I do think sometimes you need to take it a step further and receive a little bit more technical help from a counselor or someone professionally trained to help you with stress management. Proceeding is an excerpt that describes a stress management technique that researchers proved to be highly effective for dealing with stress.
“Living Mindfully”, a not-for-profit community interest group in Consett, County Durham, two experienced practitioners of mindfulness are helping clients cope with and manage stress through a variety of techniques aimed at changing the focus of their thoughts.
      Living Mindfully
Elaine Young and Gary Heads, founders of Living Mindfully, believe the key to dealing with stress lies in controlling and minimizing worry. "Mindfulness is developed by paying attention to each and every moment by being totally aware of what you are doing and what is happening around you," says Young. "It is a way of connecting with yourself in the here and now, fully awake and aware and living in the present, rather than mulling over the past and worrying about the future." "Mindfulness doesn't just help people by dealing with stressful situations," says Young. "Although it is rooted in ancient meditation principles it is increasingly being recognized by the mental health industry as effective in dealing with quite serious and long-term conditions.
      Tackling panic
As well as treating stress, mindfulness can also be used to help tackle the overwhelming feelings of panic faced by people struggling with extreme levels of stress. Heads says: "Fear breeds fear. What mindfulness does is encourage people not to react to their thoughts but to simply acknowledge them. "By refusing to dwell on them or explore them, they retreat and become less overwhelming. "The modern world puts a great deal of pressure on us and everyone is faced with stressful situations and experiences at some point or another. "Mindfulness can't eliminate stress but it gives you the tools to deal with it."

    5. I do agree with your above statements. People do need to look for positive ways to make themselves happy. Everyone has a God given talent so there is something special in all of us to make us love ourselves more and value ourselves. Mindfulness is a great way to deal with stress. We need not worry over split milk and try to look positive on the future. We cannot change the past but we can change our future by planning carefully and find ways of dealing with the here and now. We need to all live for now

  7. There are a lot of things which can cause one to go through a stressful period in their life. Stress can last for a short or long period of time. So then, what are some major factors of stress? Job and (or school)...too much work, especially if attending college. You cannot find a way to balance the workload. Secondly, personal relationship...things are not going as one would hope it would be. Thirdly, financial problems...unable to provide for your family and pay utility bills, etc (Scott , December 27th 2010)
Therefore, having social support, self esteem and a strong personality can help you dealing with stress to a certain degree. The negative side, people can hurt you, disappoint you, influence one into taking substance (House, Landis and Umberson, 1988) which leads to added stress. On the other hand there are those people who have social support, self esteem, etc can cope with stress because they have someone to share their problems with, someone to listen to them which is what most of us want, someone to give them advice, someone to make their problems seem less burdensome. Once that social support is there, it gives you the drive to make you stronger, making one confident and knowing you can overcome any obstacle that life throws in your way.

I agree with the information given in the above that an individual needs to have a lot of people around when going through stress, having a support group included family members and friends can help in lessen the stress through communication. Having a positive supporting group can help the individual to see the world as a good place to live and not as an environment to harm them seeing things around them positively can lessen the susceptible to stress.

  8. At some point in their lives virtually everyone will experience stressful events or situations that overwhelm their natural coping mechanisms. In one poll, 89% of respondents indicated that they had experienced serious stress in their lives. Some people are simply biologically prone to stress. There are many factors that influence a person's susceptibility to stress which include Early nurturing, Personality traits,Genetic factors, Immune regulated diseases,The length and quality of stressors, Older adults, Women in general and working mothers specifically. http://www.umm.edu/patiented/articles/who_at_risk_chronic_stress_or_stress-related_diseases_000031_6.htm#ixzz1oCvMWzJo.
having a strong social support system is necessary for one to cope with stress, no man is an island therefore we need others to survive in this world. In order for a person to relieve stress they need to relax, laugh, cry or even get a massage. It is normal for a person to experience stress small doses, stress can actually be beneficial to us. Stress can help compel us to action; it can result in a new awareness and an exciting new perspective. It is only when the stress becomes too great, affecting our physical or mental functioning, that it becomes a problem. It can become destructive and can turn into distress. Too much stress can result in feelings of distrust, rejection, anger, and depression, which in turn can lead to health problems such as headaches, upset stomach, rashes, insomnia, ulcers, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke (Scott,2010). A person's personality has a great impact on the way they cope with stress. Some people can get over stress very quickly while others tend to stay depressed for long periods of time and sulk before getting through stress.

  9. I agree with Shari that everyone gets stress now and then. I believe its the way we deal with it that makes it better or worse. There are also many factors that influence stress. If the situation is beyond our control then it will definitely be stressful. Working mothers do get stress by trying to meet everyone's demand within her family and work. NO man is an island you said it right, we need to fall or depend on someone now and then. We all need a helping hand for our life to be less stressful.

  13. Childhood experiences, personality traits, emotional instability, genetics and immunity abnormality are some major factors that would influence the nature and extent of a person’s susceptible to stress.
If a person has strong social support, that social support will act as protection for individuals during time of high stress. Social support helps the individuals to know that they have someone to talk to that will offer them positive responses to any given situation. Social support can help an individual to see the good from a bad situation hence, giving the individual hope and a sense of peace of mind.
If a person has a low-esteem, then that individual doesn’t value him/herself and how important they think they are. They might not see themselves as an achiever and this might make them more susceptible to stress. They need to know about themselves and appreciate their special skills and abilities so that their self esteem develops. People with poor self-esteem do not like themselves and would be more susceptible to stress.

Personality is determined by heredity, environment, culture and experiences. It is not stationary and changes through life. When a person’s personality is impacted negatively through heredity, environment, culture and their experiences, they become stressors and make them more susceptible to stress. When a person have a happy personality and shows positive emotions, are sociable, see the world as a positive environment, they will be less susceptible to stress.

I agree with the information on stress from this point of view that a person do need strong support when experiencing stress and for that reasons they need as much people that can offer positive help, so as to help the individual to grow strong to carry on with their life and to see the world as a positive place and to use their environment to enhance living and not as susceptible to stress

  14. Stress is an unavoidable part of life. We experience it in varying forms and degrees every day. The stress you experience is not necessarily harmful. In small doses, stress can actually be beneficial to us. Stress can help compel us to action; it can result in a new awareness and an exciting new perspective. It is only when the stress becomes too great, affecting our physical or mental functioning, that it becomes a problem. Everyone experiences stress a little differently. Some people become angry and act out their stress or take it out on others. Some people develop eating disorders or substance abuse problems.
People differ dramatically in the type of events they interpret as stressful and the way in which they respond to such stress. For example, people who drive themselves hard and are impatient may be more at risk for stress-related physical problem or with family history of mental illness may be affected more by stress. Other person's susceptibility to stress can be affected by any or all of these factors, such as work, death, divorce, pregnancy, retirement, unemployment, or daily hassles of every day. These can influenced your mood of feeling unhappy and can also produce stress, anxiety, and in fact harmfully affect a person's physical health.
There are many good techniques and resources for dealing with stress. One of the best antidotes for stress is having a supportive friend or family member that can provide positive advice. Others are reading a good book, watching television , taking a walk , exercising, dancing , or just relaxing even having jokes and laughter are important to how a person's related to susceptibility of stress.
The video was cool it’s short and straight to the with enough information how to deal with stress in minutes. Finally it’s always a good time to make more friends or improve on the relationships you already have. The bottom line more friends, less stress.

    2. Indeed stress is not necessarily harmful. Eustress is positive stress which provides opportunities for personal growth and satisfaction, while distress is negative stress which causes strain (Donatelle, 2007). Though we may all react differently to the many stressors of life, it is how we react to them that determines what effect they have on our lives.

  15. Threat is a major factor that influences the nature and extent of a person susceptibility to stress. The types of threat that influence a person extent to stress are physical threats, social threats and financial threats. Many people believe that they are unable to take control of their stress level when being pressured with physical, social and emotional stress. Any type of abuse or behavior that is intended to harass, offend and batter another human being is known as physical threats. Intentions to isolate individual from family members, friends and social activities is a major cause social threats. Name calling and controlling activities of individuals is major cause of emotional stress. Threats leads a person to fear which again will lead to stress. When a person experience fears their imagination happen to run wild and then that person will be unable to control their emotions.
Social support and self esteem is a major factor that can enable individual to experience less susceptible to stress. Self esteem enables you to love yourself and ensure that you are first. Self esteem also helps you to learn to say no and stick to your limit, whether it is personal or professional life. Social support enables you to express your feelings instead of bottling them up. Social support also teaches you how to nurture yourself. Social support allows individuals to take charge of their life and obtain a positive attitude. With social support and self esteem stress will be reduce.

  16. a. I must first commence by saying that, factors which influence stress are very complex: may be hard to cope with and the stronger they may possible be, might quite last longer. The major factors considered, that may influence one’s towards stress easily involve: Health, Life experiences and Coping Skill; which leads to a stressful situation.
    b. Social support, self esteem and personality plays a vital role in stress. An adequate social support, strong self esteem, and great personality helps an individual to better manage stress-ease stress: giving them opportunity to engage in an activity such as exercise etc.
While a lack of all these-self esteem, social support and personality will create a more intense situation that may even lead to suicide.

In the society that we are living whenever someone is not being shown love they believe that their is no reason to live and attempt to commit to suicide. This just show that social support is demanding for us to have a stress free society.

  20. I surely relieved some stress while laughing at this video but it was very informative.
Stress comes in all forms and affects people of all ages and all walks of life. I am sure everyone has and will experience stress at some point in their life. For a matter of fact living life on a whole comes with its everyday normal stress. However, everyone will respond to it differently and depending on different factors. Some people can overcome stress while others are resilient, developing stress disorder. However certain factors can enhance a person's susceptibility to stress. People with strong social support networks (consisting of family, friends, religious organization, and social groups) are less susceptible to stress compared to those who are poorly nourished, physically unwell, etc. When it comes to social support, self esteem and personality a person can be more or less susceptible depending on their mental health. If a person with low self esteem worries about everything it will definitely causes them to be stressed more that a person with high self esteem which normally looks at the bright side of life. When you look at a person with a calm personality and a person with an argumentative personality, who do you think will more likely to have stress? Yes, the person that argues a lot because everything is a problem for them. Social support is not necessarily always resulted by positive outcomes. It depends on who is giving the support and how positive the support is. Keep in mind that the brain is the best survival tool. Try to keep in good mental health and you will have the ability to withstand stress.

  22. Stress is influenced by work, school, relationships and life. It matters not what the person’s age, race, gender or status in society is everyone is susceptible to stress. There are persons who perform better under stress while there are others who if help is not given in time break under stress.
If a person has stable social support the help would be readily available should that person feel overwhelmed by stress. It is up to the individual to decipher if the advice or help being given is best for him/her. Stress not only affects those who are ‘weak in mind’ the ‘strong minded can become stress as well.
As individuals it is our responsibility to listen to our bodies and know when we are stressed. We need to learn to say no sometimes as well. Some of us tend to stretch ourselves too thin sometimes carrying burdens we are not even supposed to bear. If we do not take care of ‘me’ no one else will.

    1. I agree that stress has nothing to do with age, gender, or race. That everyone become stress at some point in their lives. However, different people deal with stress in different ways and while certain things may affect one person one way it does not necessarily affect another person the same. Stress and its affect varies according to an individual, example the things they value. What one individual might value (money) and become stress about, another person might not hold to such high esteem and therefore less likely to become stressed about.

  23. Stress is something that no one can avoid in life. Clearly, it is only when the stress becomes too great, disturbing our physical or mental functioning, then it becomes a problem. Too much stress can result in feelings of doubt, rejection, anger, and depression, which in turn can lead to health problems such as headaches, upset stomach, rashes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Everyone experiences stress differently. Some people become angry and act out their stress or take it out on others. Some people take it to another level and develop eating disorders or drug abuse problems.

Stress can be caused by personal problems such as health, emotional problems, relationships, life changes, stress in family and conflict of beliefs and values. Also another cause of stress is the person’s social and job issues which partake with their surroundings, social situation, job or unemployment.

  24. Some major factors which influences the nature and extent of a person‘s susceptibility to stress includes: upbringing and past experiences, health, personality traits, financial capacity and the length and quality of stressors (Ginsburg, 2006). A person’s nurturing and past experiences in an abusive and toxic condition already has a long-term effect on the body’s ability to regulate stress. If the body is already under stress due to health reasons it is likely that when stressful situations arise the person becomes strained and the health is further deteriorated. A person’s personality trait determines how well they react to stress. Finances can create a great deal of stress for anyone when it is lacking. Stress may be minimal and last for short periods of time making it manageable. On the other hand it may be great and last for over a long period of time causing havoc.
Social support is very important in dealing with stress. It is a medium through which one gets a relief from stress through friendships, support from family or counselling from allotted facilities. When there is no support or trust, persons rely on self and often times become unhealthy due to the stress. If the person has low self esteem they are more susceptible to stress. However, those with high self esteem respond to stressful situations positively. One’s personality may allow them to deal with and manage stress properly, over react, or closing in and not deal with it at all.

    1. Totally agree with this...especially the part where you said the Upbringing because if you live in a house that is full of confusion and chaos, that's a mixture for disaster right there which will eventually lead to stress.

  25. When we are a child we do not suffer much from stress but as we mature in age and responsibility there comes a time that we feel we can no longer cope with every thing that is upon us. This video is very helpful because it reminds me that even though things might be difficult to overcome there is always a way to work it out. When we are stressed there are small and simple things we can do that can help us, such as taking a walk by the sea, look in our lockers for old pictures from our children, friends and other families, we can sing a song or even read a scripture. Off course when things are really out of hand and it seems impossible there are professionals that can help and assist us in overcoming this difficult step in our lives. I understand that life is very difficult specially when you have a family and children to take care of but it is worth the sacrifice in the small and simple things in life. We should do things one step at a time. It is worth to do our best because life is beautiful and happiness has a price and when we overcome stress we can enjoy life to the fullest.

  26. There are many factors that can contribute to the susceptibility of stress. Some examples of these are: Family issues, Relationship issues, Too much School work and the list can go on. The main thing that causes stress is usually lack of proper time management. Especially for university students who like me for instance, have a project due for all my subjects for this semester. It sucks, but i have to do because i need to get out of that school. This matter can be less susceptible if we learn to manage our time and set up our priorities according to what comes first or what is more important. Failure to do this, will result into a miserable, confused and worthless person. And no one wants to be miserable, confused or worthless so let's do the right thing and manage our time well so that the nature and extent of a person's susceptibility to stress is kept to a minimum :)
